Mechanical Integrity Engineering Services and Programs
Even the most efficient, reliable, best-maintained facilities in the world face mechanical integrity issues at some point, whether from poor facility design or undiscovered asset integrity issues leading to greater concerns down the road. With MISTRAS’ mechanical integrity (MI) engineering services, MISTRAS helps your plant stay in service, in compliance, and operating smoothly.
MISTRAS provides engineering services for individual assets – such as Fitness for Service (FFS) assessments, Finite Element Analysis, and other fixed equipment mechanical engineering studies – in addition to designing and implementing plant-wide Asset Integrity Management programs.
Our practices are rooted in Recognized and Generally Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), and our engineering services are carried out by trained & certified professionals.
Asset Integrity Management (AIMS) Programs
Asset Integrity Management (AIMS) programs enable plant owners to ensure their assets are in Fit-for-Service conditions, and that they’re operating as efficiently and safely as they can be for the desired lifespan of the asset.
An effective AIMS program takes into account various factors that can affect a facility’s or asset’s performance, including equipment design, maintenance, inspection programs, and operations. MISTRAS helps clients understand how one aspect of a plant can affect another, which in turn optimizes maintenance planning and budgeting. Clients realize benefits in the form of:
- Maximized uptime
- Shorter downtimes
- Safer and more efficient operations
- Regulatory compliance
- Higher returns
MISTRAS helps plant operators develop, implement, and maintain AIMS programs. MISTRAS engineers will:
- perform GAP Analyses of existing programs to assess where existing mechanical integrity programs may be ineffective.
-
select the most appropriate traditional and advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection techniques for your facility and assets.
- utilize Risk Based Inspection (RBI) to produce quantitative or qualitative results.
- integrate data in MISTRAS’ Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS).
- help develop site-specific manuals for all employees to adhere to the MI program.
Risk Based Inspection (RBI)
Risk-Based Inspections (RBI) are advanced engineering calculations that help determine the probability and consequence of failure of a particular asset. Based on this data, MISTRAS engineers help plant operators determine expected damage mechanisms, plan inspection schedules, and prioritize their maintenance needs.
RBI assessments enable operators to potentially extend the run-time of critical plant equipment, by identifying the assets at the highest risk of failure. Risk Based Inspections are particularly useful for run-repair-replace decisions, and for creating targeted inspection plans for expected damage mechanisms.
Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS)
Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS) is MISTRAS’ industry-leading inspection database management system (IDMS). As vast amounts of data are needed to manage the plant inspection environment, PCMS serves as an ideal solution to centralize historical inspection data and perform advanced engineering calculations, such as RBI and FFS assessments. When used as the backbone of a plant-wide AIMS program, PCMS can help determine corrosion rates, next inspection dates, retirement limits, and suspect areas that require follow-up inspections.
